Ruby Washington is inarguably one of the finest female singers to come out of the UK. She has performed all over the world, effortlessly delivering an eclectic range of styles from the big ballads of Bassey and Houston, to effervescent dance-pop. She also includes Jazz, Mowtown and contemporary soul in her repertoire, all of which she achieves with dexterity, style and absolute conviction. The result is an across-the-board appeal that is matched by few artists of her era. Like many of the original soul singers, Washington was trained in Gospel before making the transition to secular music.

Having established herself as a serious artist, Washington was selected to perform in the prestigious ‘Mystique’ show at the Horseshoe Bar in Blackpool, where she soon made a significant impact on the audiences, agents and promoters alike. This led to her performing with top artists including Bob Monkhouse, Des O’Connor and Ben.E.King to name a few.

In 1992, Washington embarked upon a new venture of an all-girl-group, which resulted in the formation of ‘The Divas’ – a four member group who performed all over the UK and abroad. They were an overnight success, with such support on-board as Des O’Connor and Gary Bushell (the Sun), it was obvious that the formula was perfect. The Divas journey was sadly cut short by the tragic death of two of the members, in a car crash after their final show in July 1993. Washington returned to working as a solo artist and has continued with a flourishing career that has included TV appearances, recording, Theatre, Cabaret and Cruise Ships.

Ruby Washington is slick, stylish and impressive – The little Lady with the big voice.
